Image color picker
I built this page to read the exact color of a pixel in a picture. Choose an image, click it or move the cursor with the arrow keys, and copy the hex or RGB value.
Your picture stays on your device. PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF work.
Click the picture, or focus it and use the arrow keys. Shift moves ten pixels.

How it works, and what stays on your device
I built this on your browser's own image decoder. The picture is drawn on a canvas on this page and I read the pixel under the cursor, so the file is never uploaded and the page makes no request that carries it.
Click or tap the picture, or focus it and press the arrow keys to move one pixel at a time. Hold Shift to move ten pixels. The position, the hex value and the RGB value are read out each time the cursor moves.
The value is the color your browser shows for that pixel, in sRGB. A pixel that is not fully opaque also reports its opacity in the RGB value.
Frequently asked questions
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The picture is opened in your browser and never leaves your device. I do not receive it, and the page makes no request that carries it.
How do I pick a color without a mouse?
Press Tab until the picture is focused, then use the arrow keys to move the cursor one pixel. Shift with an arrow moves ten pixels. The new color is announced each time, and the copy buttons come next on the Tab key.
Which image formats work?
PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF.
Why does the color differ a little from my design file?
I read the pixel as your browser draws it, in sRGB. A picture with another color profile is converted by the browser first, and a JPG is lossy, so a pixel can differ slightly from the value in the original design.
